Looking to the Future
Where will you be in 10 weeks?
Keeping a record of your weights and measurements is a fantastic way of looking at your progress and how far you have come.
If you write down your goals at the beginning of your program and work out where your mini milestones are, then it becomes a lot more manageable.
One of the things I loved about writing down what my desired weight was to be each week, was the thought that if I simply kept to my diet and kept to my eating plan, in 10 weeks I would be at least 20lbs lighter!
This is a really liberating thought as suddenly everything becomes a lot more doable and achievable, not to mention positive. Think back to what you were doing 10 weeks ago (look in your diary!) and you will realize that it really wasn’t that long ago.
The first target is the hardest!
The best part about planning and setting goals is that once you reach your first mini-milestone (it might be 10lbs) then you know you are capable of reaching your targets each period.
This means you are now in the middle of your weight loss program (it doesn’t matter how much weight you have to lose) as you have STARTED and succeeded in the first round which is always the hardest.
A trainer once said to me with respect to the Martial Art Taekwondo:
Your white belt is the the most difficult belt as it involves your full commitment to the Martial Art and completing the first level. From there on it is my job to get you to black belt. All you have to do is come to class, listen to what we say and practice!
I believe this is a really similar situation. The hardest part is the beginning. Once you have lost your first 10lbs it is all down hill. If you happen to stop or get off track along the way, don’t give up, just get back on the path and learn from the experience.
Once you reach your first milestone your motivation and excitement will increase, as you will finally realize that you ARE in control and WILL actually make it happen!
